In the German novel/novella/bookofpoems (it's all three of them in one, ) 'Die Wueste Lop Nor' (Carl Hanser Verlag, 2000) by Raoul Schrott an old shepherd is mentioned, living in the desert of Lop Nor, northern China, who is supposed to be the last surviving speaker of a lost language. Of course, this is a book of fiction, so this might be nothing but a figment of this writer's supreme imagination, but still I do wonder, is anyone on the list aware of such language in that region?

Best regards,
