The point is not that Language would not publish a rebuttal of any sort,
but that noone has the right to a *nonrefereed* reply. I checked with the
former Editor of Language - Brian was informed that if he submitted a
reply it would have to be reviewed; it was reviewed; the Editor followed
the referees' advice. So the point is that a reply could have been
published if it had been a stand-alone piece that passed the reviewing
process.
