Since there seem objections to "research has often had not only a
theoretical but a practical aim, seeking to understand the linguistic
underpinnings of male dominance in order to dismantle male privilege," I'd
suggest zapping it. Sally

PS I feel unable to vote on the BWLG connection issue. Basically, if BWLG
is willing to donate its considerable resources, then I think GALA (or
whatever we're eventually called) should accept them with appreciative
thanks, and Penny's willingness to organize a conference next spring at
Stanford sounds great (though lead time is short--I'm organizing a
semantics conference for next spring here at Cornell and am already having
trouble getting rooms for the dates I want!). I don't see that as any kind
of "merger" but it's clear that others have attached symbolic significance
to these issues that I'm not quite grasping so ... I abstain.
