feminism and GALA

The problem with not including something about feminism in GALA is that
work deemed to be feminist is still discriminated against. When one's work
is in linguistics or sociolinguistics and includes a feminist perspective
(theories, etc.), it can and it has been deemed not to be "valid," etc.

Also, here is a response to the second part of the statement below which
appeared in a recent message:

"Also, I think there are people doing queer studies who would consider
themselves anti-feminist, because of a dislike of implications of (a)
the binary nature of gender and (b) a pro-woman agenda, rather than a
critical and radical analysis of gender more broadly."

Feminism is an umbrella word; there are different feminist theories and
viewpoints; binary gender neither implies feminism nor defines feminism; a
pro-woman agenda is definitely not antithetical to a radical analysis of
gender!!!
