Assistant Professor in Women?s Studies-West Virginia University

The Center for Women?s Studies at West Virginia University invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 16,
2005.  Applicants are expected to have a completed doctoral degree in
women?s studies or another discipline with a related research focus by the
starting date, and strong potential for teaching and research excellence. 

We seek candidates with expertise in feminist research methods and theory
as well as an interdisciplinary approach to gender. Specific area of
specialization is open. We particularly welcome candidates with
demonstrated leadership and commitment to advance the Center's mission.
Successful teaching experience in Women's Studies is preferred.

The candidate will be expected to maintain an active research and
publication agenda, to demonstrate teaching excellence, and to meet service
requirements. The Center for Women's Studies follows the WVU model of
40:40:20 for teaching, research, and service. The position will carry a 3:2
teaching load.  Responsibilities will include leading the teaching team for
the Introduction to Women's Studies course and teaching graduate and
undergraduate courses, including feminist theory and a large-enrollment,
general education course. 

West Virginia University's Center for Women's Studies offers a major and
minor for undergraduate students, as well as an area of emphasis in women's
studies for non-traditional students in the Regents Bachelor of Arts
program. At the graduate level, WVU offers a graduate certificate open to
students in all degree programs and to non-degree students, as well as a
women's studies-directed Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree.  The
program is a unit of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and has over
100 faculty associates across the university.  For further information

West Virginia University is classified as a Doctoral Research Extensive
University by the Carnegie Institute for the Advancement of Teaching.
Located in Morgantown, the university has approximately 24,500 students and
offers 170 degree programs across 13 colleges and schools. Morgantown,
which is 80 miles south of Pittsburgh and 200 miles west of Washington,
D.C., is regularly rated as one of the country?s best small cities.

Applications must include transcripts of undergraduate and graduate work; a
curriculum vitae; 3 letters of reference from those qualified to judge the
candidate's qualifications for this position; a representative writing
sample; a 1-2 page statement of current and future research plans; sample
teaching evaluations (summaries of quantitative data and student comments
only); sample syllabi for courses relevant to this position; and a 1-2 page
statement of teaching philosophy.  Cover letters should address how the
candidate can help advance the mission of the Center for Women's Studies. 
Applicants who have not yet completed the doctoral degree must include a
statement of progress toward the degree in their cover letter. No
application materials will be returned to the candidates.
