The Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan invites
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in
sociolinguistics to
begin September 2006. Under exceptional circumstances more senior
candidates may be considered. In keeping with the department's
interdisciplinary perspective, we especially encourage applications from
candidates who are committed to conducting innovative research that
connects
sociolinguistics to theories of human cognition and/or computational
models
of language. The ideal candidate will complement and build on existing
strengths within the department, and will be eager to interact with
students
and faculty from the broader linguistic community at the University of
Michigan. A Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment is required.

Applications should be sent to: Patrice Speeter Beddor, Chair,
Department
of Linguistics, University of Michigan, 4080 Frieze Building, 105 S.
State
St., Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1285; telephone (734) 764-0353; fax (734)
936-3406.
Please include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, research
statement, and one or more representative publications. Please also
provide
evidence of teaching excellence, and arrange for three letters of
recommendation to be sent to the address above. Review of
applications will
begin November 18, 2005, and will continue until an appointment is made.
Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. The University of
Michigan is
responsive to the needs of dual career couples and is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer.
