Sorry for the second post. There were two minor corrections to the
ad that I sent initially having to do with dual career couples and
references for senior candidates.

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan invites
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in
sociolinguistics to
begin September 2006. Under exceptional circumstances more senior
candidates may be considered. In keeping with the department's
interdisciplinary perspective, we especially encourage applications from
candidates who are committed to conducting innovative research that
connects
sociolinguistics to theories of human cognition and/or computational
models
of language. The ideal candidate will complement and build on existing
strengths within the department, and will be eager to interact with
students
and faculty from the broader linguistic community at the University of
Michigan. A Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment is required.

Applications should be sent to: Patrice Speeter Beddor, Chair,
Department
of Linguistics, University of Michigan, 4080 Frieze Building, 105 S.
State
St., Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1285; telephone (734) 764-0353; fax (734)
936-3406.
Please include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, research
statement, one or more representative publications, and evidence of
teaching
excellence. Please also arrange for three letters of recommendation
to be
sent to the address above. (Senior candidates should instead provide
names
of references.) Review of applications will begin November 18, 2005,
and
will continue until an appointment is made. Women and minorities are
encouraged to apply. The University of Michigan is supportive of the
needs
of dual career couples and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action
employer.
