Dear IGALA members,

We have just advertised the below fixed-term, part-time postdoctoral research position at the University of Nottingham, UK. I would be very grateful if you could help spread the word by passing this on to corpus linguists who might be interested in the opportunity. I’m very happy to answer any questions, too.

Many thanks,
Lucy

Research Associate/Fellow in Applied Linguistics (part time, fixed term)

Closing Date
Wednesday, 16th May 2018

Applications are invited for the above post at the University of Nottingham, UK. The successful candidate will be a corpus linguist, working on a project exploring an archive of autobiographical texts produced by patients at the Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health.

The project explores patients’ experiences waiting for assessment, their orientation to their own transgender history, their reflections upon how they have been evaluated and judged, and the ways they have coped with distress. This will lead to valuable sociolinguistic insights concerning how patients present themselves in relation to broader ideologies surrounding gender and transgender experience. The findings will also enable clinicians to improve the support available for future patients awaiting assessment with transgender health services.

The appointee will work with the existing research team on this project, being based initially at the Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health in Nottingham city centre, and then in the School of English on the University of Nottingham’s main University Park campus. The Principal Investigator for this project is Dr Lucy Jones (School of English), and the Co-Investigators are Professor Louise Mullany (School of English), Professor Alison Pilnick (School of Sociology and Social Policy), Professor Jon Arcelus (Institute of Mental Health) and Dr Walter Pierre Bouman (Nottingham Centre for Transgender Health).

Candidates must have a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant area prior to taking up the post.

This is a part time, 20 hours per week, fixed term post from 1 September 2018 to 31 July 2019.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Lucy Jones via lucy.jones at nottingham.ac.uk<mailto:lucy.jones at nottingham.ac.uk>. For the job advert, please see: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/jobs/currentvacancies/ref/ARTS111718
