Selection policy: Bursaries will be determined on the basis of conference abstract, the applicant’s potential benefit from attending, and financial need. Preference will be given to participants from economically disadvantaged countries, and to participants who demonstrate creativity in meeting much of the cost from other sources. A limited number of bursaries will be available to scholars who cannot attract funding support from their own institutions or networks.

Selection process: Applicants should submit the following items to out-going President of IGALA: Claire Maree (cmaree at unimelb.edu.au<mailto:cmaree at unimelb.edu.au>).

a) A statement of the amount requested and a detailed budget (e.g. airfare and accommodation).

b) A short statement from an academic supervisor or head of department to explain why the applicant would benefit from attending the conference, and why the applicant’s institution and/or country of residence is not able to provide funding to attend the conference.

Note: Individuals who are not affiliated with an academic institution at the time of application may submit a short statement explaining their funding situation, and outlining how they may benefit from attending the conference.

Due Date: Applications for travel bursaries for IGALA12 must be received by 5pm Thursday 29th June, 2023 (AEST).

Notification: A committee drawn from IGALA executive members will assess the application and will notify successful applicants as soon as possible after receiving the application.

Successful applicants: Successful applicants are required to submit all receipts to the application committee upon attending the conference. Travel bursaries will be distributed by the IGALA12 Conference Organising Committee.

Summary of main criteria:

1) The applicant’s abstract as relevant to the conference theme [see below] and/or relevance to IGALA’s aims. [See below.]

2) Evidence of benefit from attendance as provided by referee.

3) Evidence of inadequate level of financial support as provided by referee.

The theme of IGALA12 2023 is Gender, Language, and Sustainable Organizations.
With this theme, we aim to highlight both:

  * the many ways in which organizations provide an important context for language, gender and sexuality scholarship, and
  * the potential that language, gender and sexuality scholarship has to shape holistically sustainable organizations.
Our goal is to showcase language, gender and sexuality scholarship from diverse cultural, linguistic and geographical contexts, focusing on work that engages with ecological, social, economic, and/or cultural sustainability, particularly within organizational contexts. We also encourage discussions of methodological and epistemological interest to the field of language, gender and sexuality scholarship.
