What was the role of the Jastorf culture in the
rise of the Germanic culture? It is an early Iron
Age culture in northern Germany and southern
Scandinavia divide into Jasdorf (ca 600 to 300 BC),
Ripdorf (ca 300 to 150 BC) and Seedorf (ca 150 BC to
1 BC).

Population lived in small settlements seperated
from one another by forests. House structures are
known from Denmark and southern Sweden.
Economy based on mixed agriculture. Cattle
predominated among domestic animals and there
was some hunting.

It is a continuation of the late Bronze Age. It is
generally regarded as the least part of the core area
of the Proto-Germanic peoples.

Some claims have been done to date the first
Germanic soundshift to the period of early Jastorf,
but to talk of evidence here is of course not easy.

Based on this info I cannot see any convincing arguments
that this is the original home of the Germanic peoples.

Germanically
