Mentioned in Egyptian sources as Dja=-r=pa=ta by the way. I mention this
because I was making a list of modern countries one could come up with names
for in Egyptian, much like we did with Gothic way back when, and I included
that one even though it does not properly refer to France, just because I
couldn't resist!

Interesting! I'd never heard an explanation for that, and that's as good as
any.

Or how in Rabbinic times the Roman authorities were sometimes referred to as
the "Princes of Edom"... which supposedly helped keep the Romans from
figuring out that they were discussing Sedition, not to mention that it made
sense since the Roman appointee, Herod, was in fact an Idumean, a "Prince of
Edom."
