Esteemed listmembers,

Recently I had access to a description of finds in a grave
in Czechia (Blucina-Cézavy near Brno) which have been
regarded as possibly containing an Erulian leader, a
30-40 year old with a pallium, which pointed to a relation
with the Roman empire, with knife (saxum) and sword (spatha).
But there was also an arrow koger in the grave and seemingly
a whip (although I am not sure of the meaning of "nageika". At
the feet was a saddle. If this was not an Eruli lord, it could maybe
have been an Alan or Avar, perhaps as Suebian. The find was made
already in 1953. It is dated third quarter of the 5th century AD.
For anyone travelling to Czechia the grave objects can be
seen at Moravske Zemske Muzeum at Brno.

For those claiming Eruli settlement in Uppland after the remigration
this might be an opportunity to compare Vendel finds in Uppland
with Brno althogh this grave is a century or more older.

Erulically

Bertil
