The Orkhon Runes are not "viking runes". They are derived from a
Central Asiatic alphabet (Sogdian), which, on it's turn, is derived
from the Aramaic script.
The resemblance of their shape with the Germanic runes is due to the
use of same writing tool (a sharp pointed object - knife) and material
(wooden stick), resulting in vertical and oblique lines forming sharp
angles. This form was preserved also in stone carvings. The same thing
with the Sumero-Babylonian, the Old Persian and the Ugaritic
cuneiformes: these three writing systems are not genetically related,
their exterior resembalnce being due to the use of the same writing
tools and material (stylus with triangular point and clay plates).
