Dear listmembers,

A few comments on the author of the paper
Dirk recommends. He is a pretty unknown
professor of linguistics at Stockholm
university. The views he presents are
typical products of the PC environment
promoted by the present government.

During the viking eras some differences
occured in the Protonordic language but
generally the language was known as Danish
tongue (dansk tunga). After Iceland was
settled from Norway a language developed
that was closer to Norwegian. It was not
until the Older Middle Age that Icelandic
started to develop as an independent language.
There is an East Nordic and a West Nordic
development. Jutland's linguistic development,
however, develops closer to the West Nordic.

One has to be pretty careful reading Dahl,
because besides being PC he also is a proponent
of the myth of the Svea origin in Sweden.

Germanically

Bertil
