Dear Dirk,
Pytheas and his work "About the Ocean" do not say anything
about the Goths. This first Greek report about a voyage to the
Baltic is furthermore only known to us by fragments in the works of
other Greek and Latin authors, and a critical comparison of Plinius,
who cites Pytheas and names the Goths, and Apollonios of
Rhodios, who is by far the oldest author with citations of Pytheas,
shows that Pytheas only named the Lugii, cf. Dieter Stichtenoth,
Pytheas von Marseille, Über das Weltmeer. Köln, Graz 1959,
pp.32-34.
Kind regards
                Andreas
