Einar,

Can only agree with you. What we have is the
detailed descriptions of Procopius in the
chapter on Thule/Scandinavia and the trek
of some of the Eruli to the north, where
they settled near the Gauti/Goths. Most likely
he had the information from Scandinavian
traders and Eruli who had come down from
Scandinavia to join their brethren in the south.
Procopius writes about the journey of some
Eruli to the north to fetch a new king.

The Lister runestones in the western part
of Blekinge province provide interesting
material. The first one was erected around
75 years after the return of the Eruli to
Scandinavia:

Gummarp

Haadulv satte stavar tre f f f -
rikedom, rikedom, rikedom.

Istaby (around 625 AD)

Efter Haerulv,
Haadulv, Hjorulvs aettling,
skrev dessa runor.

Stentoften (around 650 AD)

Med nio bockar,
med nio hingstar,
gav Haadulv aering,
Haerulv, sonen, reste stenen.

Aerofulla runors rad
doeljer jag haer.
Roloes av det foervaenda,
doed genom list,
skall den bli
som bryter detta.

Erulically

Bertil

These are all speculations. You can not have any idea about what
educated Greeks were expecting. And you have no idea of the
intentions of Procopius. Neither you nor anybody else.

And are you saying that there were these ancient geographers that
were so unreliable? Must be if Procopius just copied from them?

And maybe you can support your claims with evidence.
Were did Procopius copy the descriptions of the customs of the
Skriðfinnar from?
