order a copy of this book. Could you send me the
relevant information? (ISBN et sim.)

My answer:

Its ISBN is 83-7052-597-0. The book has 762 pp., hard cover and it is in
Polish. Its full title is: "Najstarsza warstwa nazewnicza na ziemiach
polskich" by Zbigniew Babik. It is the newest and most comprehensive work in
the matter of the pre-Slavic place-names in Poland.

(1) Is the river name "Bug" Old Germanic?
(2) Are there any identifiable Pre-Indoeuropean place
names in Poland?******

My answer:

Ad (1) According to Babik _Bug_ belongs to the names of Layer 1 (it means it
is pre-Slavic), but it isn't Germanic name. Babik writes: "Including this
name to the concrete, individual languages is groundless, because the name
_Bug_ may be very old, and the stem occuring in it may be represented in
various language groups." Babik writes about IE stem _*bhewgh-_ 'to wind,
turn; winding'.

Ad (2) There are plenty of identifiable names in Poland and some of them can
belong to the pre-IE languages.
