Continuing my presentation of the recent book below are a
few of the titles of the chapters under the four sections

"Aus den Nebeln des Nordens"
"Die germanische Mobilmachung"
"Der Kampf um Rom"
"Die Erben des Imperiums"

I

"Die blonden Krieger des Nordens - Ein roemisches Trauma",
page 104 ff.

II

"Germanische Mobilmachung - Die neuen Grosstämme", page 128 ff.
"Die Gotensaga . Beginn einer Odyssee", page 134 ff.

IV

"Die Ostgoten in Italien - Der Staatsmann Theoderich", 221 ff
"Die Westgoten in Spanien - Die erste Nation Europas", 232 ff

On another note. Presenting the definition of Germanic tribes
as the barbaric other has always been important:

"Even Britain was conquered by Germanic tribes, the Angles and
Saxons. To add to the universal disorder, the Huns, [were] devastated
Eastern Europe...Attila died soon afterward, and the Huns never
troubled Europe seriously again." (Emma Peters Smith, David
Saville Muzzey, and Minnie Lloyd, _World History: The Struggle
for Civilization_, rev.ed., Boston: Ginn & Co., 1955, p. 115).

Of course the Goths were the main barbaric other:

"Lange mussten die Goten als synonym fuer Kulturfeindlichkeit
und Barbarei herhalten, bis sie dieses ebenso unglueckliche
wie unverdiente Etikett zu Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts
and die Vandalen abgeben durften..." (Arens, p. 135).
