Cyncical question I suppose? Well, mainstream means that it is the
most widly accepted view by the leading scholars in the particular
field. None of the authors you mention above belong to the group.

Simply because a view is widely accepted, does not make it to be
correct.

That is a trusim.

Your comments re Jordanes, Cassiodorius etc are well taken. Their
views shaped the histiography of the Goths and the truth is still
that today very little is known about the Goths.

The "Goths" or rather a people ,given a " gothic " identity
dominated Europe for is the first 7 centuries of this era. They were
not all the same people with a homogenous identity.

The idea that they were Scandinavian appears to be changing. The
could very well be Germanic. The identity also appears to include
other people East of the Vistula, and got broadly associated with
them.

It seems to be " proven" at least to many that the Goths do not +
the Getae.

Mnay other people are questioning that.

There is also a movement of Tribes from central Asia into Europe,
all through the BCE period and later and not all as nomadic
sheepherders.

So it is not entirely clear who these people " Goths" were.

Mainstream is then scholars, mostly European who have so far taken
an interest. As others non European scholars take an interest, new
perpectives on the same data will come.

Bear with it.
