Dear listmembers
Jordanes mentions tribes in Scandinavia. Some of these tribes are
easy to connect to specific medieval härads(counties). For
example Rani and Ranerike, Fervir and Fjäre Härad and so on.
Without
having any aspirations in discussing the origin of the goths i would
be interested in your ideas regarding some names that are "Gothic";
these are: Eua Greutungi - today's Örgryte, Gauthi Gothi -
today's Götar, Ostrogothi - today's Östgötar and
Wagot that are
not to be found in today's place names. Jordanes could not have
made
these names up since they exist in early medieval times and even
today. Were "Gotish" sounding tribe names common in the
migration
period or are these tribes somehow connected to the continental
Goths ?
Bets Regards Marty
