... surprisingly enough we hear quite often of Goths with ethnically
mixed parentage. Theoderic the Great's mother was possibly a Roman,
Jordanes is believed to have had a mixed Gothic-Alanic background,
the Emperor Maximinus, whome the Romans called The Thracian, was
according to Jordanes, born of a Gothic father (Micca) and an Alanic
mother.  Intermarriage is certainly one cause for ethnical mixing,
but more important was probably the acculturation and assimilation as
explanation for Istvan Bona's (earlier reported) findings regarding
skeletal characteristics which suggested that many of the East
Germanic people did not fit with the so called Reihengraeber-typus.
