[gothic-l] Salo Test -- further thoughts & was Wulfila one person??

In this passage, Gk. arguria is translated variously: silubreinaize
(adj.), silubreinam (noun) - although <ein> is in angular brackets -
and finally skattans. The 30 of silver, the 30 silvers, and the
coins. ...a strategy I've sometimes tried when translating things
into English, to sneak in meanings that might get lost, without
becoming more verbose than the original. The variation suggests
that the idiom of "silvers" wasn't as clear in Gothic with reference
to coins.

WULFILA: thana akr kasjins "that field of a potter"
ME: akr this kasjins "field of the potter"
(actually I carelessly typed nom. akrs)

I was probably treating this as a proper name like the Potter's
Field.

idreigon & frawaurkjan both occur in reflexive and non-reflexive
forms ( e.g. L 15,18 frawaurhta mis = h(marton v. 21 frawaurhta = h
(marton ) - so no shame there?!

du usfilhan ana gastim 'for the burial of foreigners' = eis tafhn
tois cenos
I've not met this use of ANA before (I wonder if there are any other
examples...), and would never have thought of it. Other
possibilities I might have used: gen., or faur +acc.

One final ponder: as I look through the Gothic Bible, sometimes I
meet a certain idiom predominantly in one place, for example Heyne
suggests that sah/soh can sometimes have a relative
sense 'welcher'. Of the 7 examples I found of this, 6 were in
Luke. Which set me thinking, has anyone investigated the evidence
that the Gothic New Testament was translated by one person? The
example I just gave doesn't say anything one way or the other, and
could just be a due to subject matter, as the idiom seems to depend
on a very specific context -- and I don't have much experience in
how these questions are determined -- but just a thought...
