Cf. fraweit giban "to take vengeance" (2. Thess. 1:8) and fraweit 
usgiban "to suffer vengeance", "to be punished" (2. Thess. 1:9). 
Interestingly, the prefix us- makes the whole construction reverse. 
So, maybe aiþ giban "to give an oath" and aiþ usgiban "to fulfill an 
oath" as in the sense "to accept the consequence of the sworn oath" is 
possible?
