Nominative or Accusative

Hello,
in German it is quite easy if you just ask for it: Er wird "wer oder was"? Or: Er scheint "wer oder was" zu sein? In comparison to: Er imitiert "wen oder was"?

Well, but in such sentences "he believe him to be blablabla" the accusative appears as an argument ov the verb which is further described by the infinitive. The accusative doesn't appear as to happen of course of the copula.
