CALL FOR PAPERS
Eighth Annual Conference on Teaching Spanish to Native Speakers
June 21-23, 2002
Las Cruces, NM

Conference Co-Chairs Cecilia Rodríguez Pino and Patricia
MacGregor-Mendoza seek submissions for the 8th Annual Conference on
Teaching Spanish to Native Speakers.    

Submissions are being requested for 30-minute paper sessions (20 minutes
presentation 10 minutes discussion) and 2-hour workshop sessions (1.5
hours presentation, .5 hour discussion) and half-day workshops (3.5 hour
presentation, .5 hour discussion).  

Topics may be drawn from any discipline, but should be broadly related
to advancing knowledge of this growing field by identifying the unique
social or linguistic characteristics of Native Spanish Speakers (e.g.
issues in identity, social history, dialect, proficiency, etc.),
developing pedagogical theory and/or implementing pedagogical techniques
that address the specific needs of Spanish speakers. 

Paper submissions:  submit one copy of a one-page abstract that includes
the title, an outline of  the focus of the paper and the audience for
which your presentation is intended (elementary, secondary,
post-secondary, adult education, community, etc.).  At the end of your
abstract please include the name, affiliation, address, phone and e-mail
of all presenters.  Please also indicate what audio-visual support you
require for the presentation. 

Workshop submissions:  submit a one to two-page abstract which includes
the following information: the title and the length of the presentation
(2 hours or half-day), the audience for which your workshop is intended
(elementary, secondary, post-secondary, adult education, community) a
detailed description of the themes of the workshop and answers to the
following
questions:  What are the overall goals of the workshop?  What types of
materials will be presented to the participants?  In what activities
will the participants engage as part of this workshop and in what manner
(individual, pairs, groups)?  What skills, abilities and materials will
participants take away with them as a result of this workshop?  At the
end of your abstract please include the name, affiliation, address,
phone and e-mail of all presenters.  Please also indicate what
audio-visual support you require for the presentation. 

Interested in chairing a session?  The responsibilities of a session
chair are giving brief introductions of the speakers for each session
and providing speakers guidance on the amount of time left in the
session.  If you would like to be a session chair, please send an e-mail
to the Program Coordinator. 

Mail, fax or e-mail the information requested in the submission
guidelines to Yolanda Schroeder, Program Coordinator, below by the
deadline of April 30, 2002.
