TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION 


Department: The English & Foreign Languages Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Linguistics (Generalist) to begin Fall 2007. 

The Position: The new faculty member will teach undergraduate classes in linguistics and EAP composition and graduate classes in TESL.  The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and service to the department, college, and university. Faculty generally teach three courses per quarter. Finalists will be required to appear for interviews, offer a scholarly presentation to the department, and conduct a teaching demonstration. The EFL Department offers the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and the bachelor’s degree in Spanish. 

Minimum Qualifications: 
• Ph.D. in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics from an accredited university by September 1, 2007. 
• Evidence of effective university teaching 
• Demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly work 
• Ability to be responsive to the educational equity goals of the university and its increasing ethnic diversity and international character 

Preferred/Desired Qualifications: 
• Strong methodological, qualitative and quantitative skills 
• Specializations in one or more of the following: Grammar, Phonology, History of English, Sociolinguistics, Assessment, CALL Technology 
• Interest and ability in obtaining external funding

• a cover letter that describes the candidate’s teaching and research experience and interests and that addresses the duties and qualifications articulated in the position description; this must include a statement of their teaching philosophy within a multicultural environment with examples of past experiences; 
• a curriculum vitae comprised of at least those elements specified on the application form and including the names, titles, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least five individuals who can speak to the candidate’s potential for success in this position; 
• examples of published materials and/or project reports; 
• three recent (dated within the past two years) letters of reference; 
• names, addresses and phone numbers of 2 additional references; 
• a completed application form; 
• a transcript showing highest degree earned.
