Dean, College of Liberal Arts 

Oregon State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). CLA remains the cornerstone of the University. Central to OSU¹s focus upon liberal education 
for all students, CLA provides a curriculum that helps students understand their role as citizens and community members, provides them with critical thinking and communication skills, and prepares them to embark on a lifetime of learning in a multi-cultural, global environment. 

CLA has a long tradition of excellence in undergraduate education. As part of its Strategic Plan, the College has embarked on developing new graduate programs that would contribute to OSU¹s success. With over 200 faculty 
members in thirteen departments offering nineteen majors, and in related interdisciplinary degree and certificate programs, the College enrolls over 3,000 majors. 

The Dean position is a 12-month, 1.0 FTE appointment. The Dean is appointed by, and reports to, the Provost and Executive Vice President. Salary is competitive, and the benefits package includes several options for 
health/dental/life insurance, retirement, and a new program of reduced tuition for dependents (some restrictions apply). 

POSITION OVERVIEW & QUALIFICATIONS 
The Dean is the chief administrative officer of the College with responsibility for: 
* creating a compelling vision for the College in the context of OSU¹s Strategic Plan for the 21st Century and our goal to be a top-10 Land Grant university 
* creating and sustaining an environment of academic excellence in order to enable success for students, faculty, and staff 
* leading a sustained and aggressive commitment to private, foundation, and corporate fundraising working in partnership with faculty leaders, University leadership, and the OSU Foundation 
* contributing significantly to the intellectual development and financial growth of the College and University 
* enhancing the College¹s commitment to a diverse and multicultural university 
* further advancing the learning-centered culture in the College and the University 
* fostering interdepartmental and interdisciplinary programs and initiatives 
* developing a coherent business plan that looks to strategic opportunities for sustainable program growth 
* developing and enhancing relationships with internal and external constituencies, including alumni 
* advancing the college¹s mission 

Qualifications for the dean position include an earned doctorate and demonstrated: 
* distinguished record in teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the expectations of the rank of Professor in the College; demonstrated understanding of what constitutes excellence in scholarly and creative endeavors in the Liberal Arts 
* proven leadership and success in securing internal and external programmatic support for instruction, research, service, and outreach, including external relations, development and fundraising 
* leadership skills with the ability to set challenging and attainable goals, and work with and inspire others to high levels of creative performance 
* ability to facilitate a collaborative leadership environment and ability to set priorities 
* commitment to advancing diversity and equity 
* understanding of current and emerging issues in research, education, and outreach of importance to the state, nation, and the world in the arts, the humanities, and the social sciences 
* commitment to quality research and high-quality and innovative teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; faculty governance; student success; 
interdisciplinary programs; outreach; and extended education 
* administrative ability at the senior management level, including budget and financial management processes, public relations and development, strategic planning, policy formation, and personnel management 
* clear understanding of the mission of a Land Grant university 
* highest degree of personal integrity
