The Department of Linguistics at the University at Buffalo invites
applications for up to two tenure-track positions in linguistics at
the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates whose research makes
significant use of computational, corpus, or quantitative and
statistical methods. The specializations for these positions are open
but candidates whose research interests also include phonology and
syntax are especially encouraged to apply. The starting date for these
positions is Fall 2020.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses at all
levels, including courses that support the department’s PhD program in
Linguistics and its Master’s program in Computational Linguistics,
serve on dissertation committees, establish and maintain a robust
research program, pursue external funding when appropriate, and
provide service to the University and discipline.

The Department of Linguistics at the University at Buffalo
(http://arts-sciences.buffalo.edu/linguistics.html) has a tradition of
research on diverse languages using a variety of approaches to
linguistics, with a strong focus on typology, variation,
constraint-based models of grammar (e.g. Construction Grammar, HPSG,
RRG), psycholinguistics, experimental and laboratory approaches, and
linguistic fieldwork. The ideal candidates will find opportunities for
collaboration among faculty in the University at Buffalo’s Departments
of Linguistics, Computer Science and Engineering, Psychology, or
Communicative Disorders and Sciences. The university provides access
to supercomputing infrastructure via the Center for Computational
Research.
