I'm glad you sent this around Phil, this as an excellent website. The story
behind its creation is very interesting and informative for anyone
working with
a community on languae issues or interested in doing so. Prof. Marie-Odile
Junker presented a paper at the Workshop on the Structure and Constituency in
Languages of the Americas 2005, Toronto. The specifics are what is important,
and sadly I don't recall them too well. However, if memory serves me, she
started the project several years ago thinking she would be doing a
grammar and
quickly learned that the Cree community had other ideas regarding their needs.
She received a grant that had open outcomes, meaning she did not have to
specify what the out comes would be in her proposal (again if I recall
properly). This created a great deal of flexibility and room for her and the
community to arrive at a project that best met the needs of the community.
Anyway, if people find the website interesting I would encourage them to drop
Prof. Junker an email to inquire about the history of the site - I think they
will find it quite informative and very valuable. Hopefully Prof. Junker won't
mind the inquiries.
