The use of "ogonek" for the subscript hook is also a bit of a mystery to me. The word means "spark" or "flash" in Russian. There used to be, and perhaps still is, a Communist newspaper in Russian called "Ogonek", and I remember reading its Spanish namesake "La Llamarada". Bill
