As far as I know Lucida Grande has been the default OS X font since OS  
X shipped. I don't know if glyphs have been added to it over time or  
not. If by "older computers" you mean they have OS 9, absolutely will  
cause problems. If they are on OS X, they do have LG - it's the font  
that appears in the menu. Check the font version on the file, and  
compare it with the version number on newer machines. It is possible  
that the new version may have some that the older versions do not.
