Languages Act Receives a Failing Grade
GNWT report finds endangered Aboriginal languages lacking protection

Northern Territories

A review of the 25-year-old Official Languages Act in the Northwest Territories
found that it does not work and fails to protect endangered Aboriginal
languages.
Kevin Menicoche, MLA for Nahendeh, chaired the committee that reviewed the act
and released the report titled Reality Check: Securing a Future for the
Official Languages of the Northwest Territories on May 28.
