Grade 6 students at AW Neill Middle School will have the option of learning the
Nuu-chah-nulth language starting this September, School District 70
superintendent Cam Pinkerton said.

Nuu-chah-nulth is the language spoken by the 14 First Nations which comprise the
Nuu-chah-nulth language family. Locally, it is spoken by the Hupacasath and
Tseshaht First Nations.

The new program is part of a pilot project that will see the language taught at
AW Neill and Ucluelet elementary.
