Ngallugu guunga-ri ngallugu dhargarri-dhargarri — Our children are our future.

A ceremony at the Wakefield District Education Office, Kadina last Tuesday,
November 3, marked the end of the Narungga Language Retraining Program’s first
stage, as 12 teachers and community members received certificates of
completion.

This means, after a year of studying the Narungga language, each is now
certified to begin teaching and spreading the language, as its reinstatement
continues, 10 years since the idea was first proposed.

Those behind the program now say the next step is to spread the language through
schools, the aim being to have children speaking and spreading it in the near
future.
