Brian Richards and David Malvern at Reading have been working on just this
problem, and have come up with a very elegant solution called D, which will
hopefully become part of CLAN relatively soon.  My understanding is that
they are also willing to work with people on this now, before the final
version is contributed to CLAN.  Contact Brian at
<B.J.Richards at reading.ac.uk>.  I hope that they will post something more
detailed about D to the list in response to your message.
