RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN CLINICAL LINGUISTICS

DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN COMMUNICATION SCIENCES

UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD

Applications are invited for the above ESRC-funded post which is tenable for
1 year in the first instance, starting from July 2000 (or as soon as
possible thereafter), to investigate abnormal vocabulary use in the
conversation of young adults with autism. The post involves the development
of a lexical coding system for a corpus of autistic conversation, the
analysis (and some transcription) of the corpus, and the preparation of the
corpus for inclusion in the CHILDES data archive.

Applicants should have a good first degree (and preferably a higher degree)
in Linguistics, Psycholinguistics or Speech and Language Therapy, and be
skilled in the transcription and analysis of spoken language data.
Experience in computational corpus linguistics and/or knowledge of autism
would be an advantage.
