Teaching of phonics

Dear all,

I would like to ask for your opinion on whether IPA symbols should or
should not be taught in the teaching of phonics to young non-native
speakers (Primary school students). If not, how does the mismatch between
the alphabet and sound (e.g. cook but pronounced with /k/) be explained to
the kids?

Thanks for your attention
