I think I've got it:  Iceman.
Here's the synopsis from the web:

"A group of explorers on a remote expedition make a startling discovery:
a frozen Neanderthal. Apparently, the specimen in question has been on
ice for 40,000 years. Back in the lab, scientists and anthropologists
try to thaw him out -- but he warms up a bit more than they expected him
to..."

As I recall, Philip Lieberman consulted with the filmmakers on the vocal
capacities of Neanderthal people, and there's quite a bit of attention
to the iceman's communicative abilities.
