Australian Aborigines deliberately setting forest fires
to clear the undergrowth and improve hunting conditions. So we have to
be careful about assuming universals.

And in West Africa where slash and burn is used, forest is burned to
fertilize and clear the ground for the next year's crop. These fires are
everywhere and can even cause some sprinkles in the dry season as moisture
condenses in clouds.
