In Sierra Leone Mende, the white man is called "ten person" because they
count by ten instead of twenty.  In countries where people didn't normally
wear shoes, many people groups used a base 20. In Alaska where both hands
and feet are covered, they still count by 20. There are other systems, but
they all depend on body parts, whether it be the extremities or things like
elbow, shoulder etc.
