hello all.  seeing ash's proposal and joan's comments on it, reminded me
that gert and
i had written something about the interaction between "predicate", "topics"
(as characterized
in the german literature), and functional uncertainty:

if anyone is interested, i can send along a pdf file of some version of
that paper, unfortunately,
containing numerous misformattings and other oddities, but whatever might
