Bring about uniform sign language, says NGO
Bangalore, May 16, 2012, DHNS:

The State government should standardise sign language in Kannada so
that there is uniformity in teaching students with speech and hearing
impairment, said V S Basavaraj, executive director of Association of
People with Disability (APD).

More than 500 people, comprising students suffering from speech and
hearing impairment, their parents and teachers participated in the
conference organised by the APD on Wednesday. A uniform sign language
policy will improve the quality of life of people with the impairment.
A MoU has been submitted to the government seeking approval, he said.

People with speech and hearing disability have a tough time
interacting with others and hence suffer social isolation. Several
times they fail to communicate to their own parents. In such a
scenario, sign language alone comes to their aid, he said Basavaraj.
