It has been made compulsory to prepare all documents in government
institutions both Sinhala and Tamil languages.

Chairman of the National Language Commission Nimal R. Ranasinghe says
the National Language Commission Act will be amended to streamline the
National Language Policy. Main objectives of the Commission are to
implement national language policy in public institutions and make
necessary recommendations in this regard. The government institutions
are bound to provide services to the public both in Sinhala and Tamil
languages. Therefore, all documents, forms and name boards will be
made available in the two languages. Mr. Ranasinghe told SLBC that
legal measures will be taken against the institutions that do not
follow these rules properly.
