Round table on language policy takes place in Astana

Participants of a round table on language policy in Kazakhstan
concluded that there is a need to develop new standards for teaching
the state language. Teachers, journalists and public figures discussed
the latest teaching methods and techniques. They noted that each year,
new textbooks and fiction books are published in the Kazakh language.

Meruyert Zhaparova, Director, Til Daryn Methodological Centre of
Innovative Technologies

“It is necessary to simplify teaching methods in order to help people
learn some specific communication skills, that is, the ability to
speak.”

Zukhra Sayapova, Kazakh MP

“As for Kazakhstan’s current language policy, about 64 percent of the
population speaks Kazakh, and if they don’t speak it fluently, at
least they understand it."
