Q: "Like"

Hi Everybody

Can anyone suggest a reading or readings on uses of quotative "like" in
North American English, as in:

She's like "This is really stupid"

that would be appropriate for first- and second-year undergraduates with no
prior exposure to linguistics, linganth, or sociolinguistics?

Accessible work on some other newer uses of "like" and/or on similar
phenomena in other languages and cultures might be of interest as well.

This query is for an undergraduate student. Naturally, I'd be happy to
summarize responses for the list if there's sufficient interest.

Many thanks.

Maggie Ronkin
