[Linganth] Dr. Alexandra "Misty" Jaffe's passing

Dear Colleagues,


I am very sorry to have to bring this sad news to you. On Tuesday evening (Nov. 20) at 7:30 p.m., our dear colleague, Dr. Alexandra “Misty” Jaffe, passed away in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family.


It was important to Misty that you all be told as personally as possible about her passing, rather than receiving the news from strangers.


Given that Misty’s passing has happened late in this semester, we at CSULB will need time to plan a service that truly honors all of the aspects of Misty’s extraordinary life. Interim Linguistics Department Chair, Dr. Malcolm Finney and I will be working with the family on a memorial service planned for the.beginning of the Spring 2019 semester.


Her daughters asked me to tell you how much their mom cared for her students, colleagues, departments, college, university, and profession. Her family hopes that you know how much energy Misty gave to her work, and that our wonderful colleague never swayed from her indomitable principles and moral compass in her caring for her many charges.


There is no information yet from the family regarding their wishes for directed donations, or any other requests on behalf of Misty. We will post the information when we have it. In the meantime, anything you want the family to receive can be sent to the CSULB linguistics department, 1250 Bellflower Boulevard, Long Beach, CA 90840, and we will make sure it gets to the family.


Dr. Alexandra “Misty” Jaffe will be dearly missed.
