Environmental Incentives, a contractor with USAID’s Amazon Regional
Environment Program is looking for a short-term consultant with a
background in linguistic anthropology. The contract assignment is to write
500-1000 words on the role of language in communications with people and
communities in the Amazon Region (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru,
and Suriname), drawing on linguistic anthropology to answer the following
question: What are the key opportunities and risks USAID should consider
to safely and effectively communicate with people and communities living in
the Amazon Region (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname)?

The deliverable will be part of a larger internal USAID report that aims to
identify key audiences/stakeholders of USAID’s Amazon Regional Environment
Program (AREP) and the best ways of communicating with these stakeholders.
Understanding how to safely, respectfully, and effectively communicate with
the diversity of Indigenous communities across the Amazon is a central
priority of this work.

The expected turnaround time is one week, once the contract is signed.

If you are interested, please email Jenny Baca at
jbaca at environincentives.com. She is happy to discuss and provide more
background as needed.
