The Department of Communication, Film, and Theater invites applicants
for a tenure-track position in digital media and ethnography beginning
August 2023. The department is strongly interdisciplinary, with faculty
who do diverse work in media and cultural studies, public communication,
journalism, film, theater, and dance. We are especially interested in
candidates whose teaching and research interests address emerging and
interactive media technologies/platforms from a media and cultural
studies perspective and with a strong ethnographic and interdisciplinary
focus. This includes, but is not limited to studies in: digital
cultures; digital labor; technology and inclusion, equity, and access;
technology and identity; media activism; gaming; AR/VR worlds;
technology and surveillance; or other social-political issues.

A Ph.D. or a terminal degree in media and cultural studies, with the
focus mentioned above, is strongly preferred by the time of appointment,
though ABD candidates near completion will be considered. The appointed
faculty member will design undergraduate courses in their area of
specialization. They must demonstrate their ability to also teach one or
more of our core introductory media studies courses including
Introduction to Media and Culture, Media Criticism, a Digital Media
Studies course, a methods course in online as well as community-based
cultural ethnography, and the upper level research seminar. All faculty
participate in teaching the College’s First and Second Year Seminars,
and supervise Senior capstone projects (including practice-based work).
The teaching load is six courses per year, along with undergraduate
advising.   Opportunities and support for research and scholarly
activity are available.

Please send the following materials, merged into a single PDF, to Human
Resources at employment at allegheny.edu: letter of application, CV, a
statement describing how you incorporate diversity, equity, and
inclusion into your teaching, research, and/or community engagement, a
statement with teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching
effectiveness, and three letters of reference. Review of applications
will begin on December 1st and will continue until the position is filled.
