The Department of English at Arizona State University invites applications for a nine-month, full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We are seeking candidates with a specialty in Linguistics and/or Applied Linguistics/TESOL, with expertise in sociophonetics, sociolinguistics, second language testing/assessment, endangered languages, language documentation, Indigenous linguistics, decolonial linguistics, raciolinguistics, or lavender languages/linguistics and that addresses the needs and lived realities of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) individuals and communities, locally and globally. Anticipated start date of August 2023.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty working to advance innovative research, excellence in teaching, and justice in education and society through its work with the diverse and growing undergraduate and graduate student population at Arizona State University.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in their area(s) of expertise and publish scholarship in top-tier outlets; teach Linguistics and Applied Linguistics/TESOL courses at the undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctorate) levels (including online); collaborate with colleagues across the Unit and the University to promote the visibility and contributions of Linguistics, Applied Linguistics/TESOL; build partnerships with communities in supporting linguistic diversity and addressing linguicism and other forms of injustice; and provide service to the institution and the profession.

Minimum Qualifications:

  *   Ph.D. (in hand by the time of appointment) in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related field
  *   Evidence of relevant expertise in sociophonetics, sociolinguistics, second language testing/assessment, endangered languages, language documentation, Indigenous linguistics, decolonial linguistics, raciolinguistics, or lavender languages/linguistics, or related area of specialization
     *   Evidence of professional engagement with linguistic and cultural diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in education and/or society
  *   Evidence of a strong research agenda and potential for publications
     *   Evidence of ability to teach in-person and online introductory and advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics and/or applied linguistics/TESOL and develop courses in area(s) of specialization
  *   Evidence of a sophisticated understanding of and commitment to challenging and disrupting harmful and unethical historical scholarly practices relevant to doing language and linguistics research
  *   Evidence of success in working with and meeting the needs of diverse student populations
