Subject: Visiting Phonology position at NYU
 
        The Department of Linguistics has recently received authorization to
hire a phonologist for a one-year visiting appointment, preferably at the
Assistant Professor level. The appointment would commence on Sept. 1, 1995.
Duties would involve teaching an introductory graduate-level and
 second-semestergraduate-level course in phonology, an undergraduate course in
 phonology, and
one other course. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated
interest in the interaction of phonetics and phonology.

UH EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST III; position number 80561; English Language
Institute; full-time, permanent; to begin 7/95 pending position
availability. The Institute is a sub-unit of the Department of English
as a Second Language at the University of HawaiD4i at Manoa. Its
primary function is to provide English language instruction to
non-native speakers of English who are officially admitted to the
University and who are judged to be in need of specialized training,
primarily in the English used in academic settings.
 
Duties: Assistant Director of the English Language Institute (ELI);
responsible for curriculum, course scheduling, and teacher development
for the Institute. Specific duties include but are not limited to the
following: prepare course and testing schedules for each semester and
both Summer Sessions; monitor enrollment and decisions on course
cancellation; interview and maintain contact with potential
instructors; assign courses to instructors; supervise and support the
lead teachers and instructors in their teaching duties; organize
regular workshops for ongoing teacher development; monitor the quality
of teaching in the ELI; oversee development and selection of
curricular materials for courses; provide necessary curricular support
materials for teachers; supervise regular meetings of ELI curriculum
areas.
 
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in an ESL-related
field; effective communication skills, both oral and written; ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
departmental and university faculty, staff, and lecturers. Desirable
qualifications: Demonstrated involvement in the ESL professional
community; familiarity with research procedures; thorough knowledge of
language pedagogical theory and practices.
 
Pay Range: P09, minimum $3,058/month. To apply: Submit APT application

The department of English at the University of Lille 3, Lille, France, is
urgently seeking to fill two one year full time positions in English
linguistics, pending final administrative approval. Both positions  start
on October 1 1995. The first position involves teaching English grammar and
linguistics to French students of English. The second position is more
flexible, involving teaching English phonetics and/or English grammar and
linguistics to French students of English.
 
Both positions are open at the following ranks:
 
 - Maitre de conference associe (= visiting lecturer)
 (open to applicants holding a PhD and a lecturer/professor position in
 their home university).
 
 - Attache temporaire d'enseignement et de recherche
 (open to applicants holding a PhD)
 
 - Maitre de langue
 (open to applicants preparing a PhD)
 
Knowledge of French is useful, but not indispensable.
The teaching load for all ranks is 6-7 hours a week, over two 14 week
semesters. Teaching starts in early October.
